The Doug DuBoff Young Composer Fund
Supporting the Next JENeration of Jazz Creators
At the request of the DuBoff family, the Jazz Education Network is honored to announce the creation of the Doug DuBoff Young Composer Fund, established in memory of Doug DuBoff who died unexpectedly on April 22, 2026.
Doug was a valued member of the Jazz Education Network Board of Directors, and through his work with ejazzlines—a charter organizational member of JEN—he played an important role in supporting the organization and the broader jazz education community.
A lifelong bassist, Doug performed and recorded with numerous ensembles before co-founding ejazzlines with his brother Rob. What began as a small venture grew into a leading global publisher and distributor of jazz music, connecting educators, students, and performers with the charts and resources that bring this art form to life.
Through his work, Doug helped preserve and share the music of jazz’s greatest voices—ensuring that the sounds of artists like Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Oliver Nelson, Count Basie, Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald, Mary Lou Williams, and Wynton Marsalis continue to be studied, performed, and celebrated by new generations.
At his core, Doug believed in the power of music to connect people—and in the importance of making that music accessible to all
About the Fund
The Doug DuBoff Young Composer Fund has been established to carry forward that legacy by supporting emerging jazz composers through the Jazz Education Network Young Composer Showcase.
This fund is dedicated to:
- Providing financial support for student composers
- Helping bring new works to life through performance opportunities
- Supporting the creation, preparation, and sharing of original compositions
- Ensuring that the next generation of jazz voices is heard
In a field built on both tradition and innovation, this fund reflects Doug’s lifelong work—preserving the past while investing in the future of jazz.
Honor Doug’s Legacy
For those who wish to honor Doug’s life and contributions to the jazz community, we invite you to make a gift in his memory.
All gifts made through this fund are recognized in honor of Doug DuBoff’s legacy and his lifelong commitment to connecting musicians with published music.
Your support will directly impact young composers—helping them create, share, and sustain the music that Doug dedicated his life to championing. Every new composition supported through this fund is a continuation of Doug’s work—ensuring that jazz remains a living, evolving art form for generations to come.
Donors will be recognized as supporters of the 2027 Young Composer Showcase.
Examples of impact:
- $50 supports student application access
- $500 supports composition preparation and materials
- $1,000 supports a Young Composer Showcase participant
- $2,500+ expands opportunities for multiple student composers
