The American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming contains a collection of 648 manuscript scores used by Harry James during the 1940’s and 50’s. This presentation will give an overview of the contents and discuss the merits of specific pieces the author edited for performance.
Christopher Hahn is an educator, conductor, and trumpet player in the Black Hills area of South Dakota. He is currently principal trumpet with the Black Hills Symphony and lead trumpet with the David Martinson Big Band. He is a founding member of Green Dolphin Jazz and is the first call trumpet player for visiting theatre and pop groups. Hahn is the conductor of the Dakota Chamber Orchestra, in residence at Black Hills State University, where he is also on the music faculty.
In addition to conducting, Hahn teaches brass, music history, ethnomusicology, and recording technology courses. Dr. Hahn holds degrees from the University of Northern Colorado, where he was a member of the award-winning Lab Band One, the University of Wyoming, the University of Miami (FL), and Casper College. Hahn and his wife Tara, a K-2 music educator, recently welcomed their daughter Elsie Rae into the family and are living on 4 hours of sleep per night!
